Manager Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Accounting Manager to lead a dedicated team on the Sunshine Coast. This role focuses on overseeing a diverse portfolio of business and individual clients, providing high-level technical advice, and fostering a high-performance culture. The successful candidate will act as a primary point of contact for clients, ensuring the delivery of quality compliance and strategic advisory services.

Key Duties & ResponsibilitiesClient & Portfolio Management
  • Manage and oversee a dedicated portfolio of business and individual clients.
  • Act as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor, building long-term relationships.
  • Manage client expectations regarding timelines, fees, and deliverables.
  • Identify opportunities for additional advisory services to add value to client operations.
  • Contribute to client acquisition and maximize portfolio profitability.
Accounting & Tax Compliance
  • Prepare and review financial statements and income tax returns (Individuals, Companies, Trusts, and SMSFs).
  • Oversee BAS, IAS, and other statutory compliance obligations.
  • Conduct rigorous reviews of work prepared by junior and senior staff to ensure technical accuracy.
  • Mitigate risk by identifying technical issues and implementing tax-effective solutions.
  • Ensure all work meets current legislative standards and internal quality benchmarks.
Advisory & Technical Leadership
  • Provide expert advice on Income Tax, CGT, GST, FBT, Division 7A, and Business Restructuring.
  • Utilize small business CGT concessions and manage superannuation compliance.
  • Research complex technical matters and lead internal training sessions.
  • Stay at the forefront of legislative changes to guide the team and clients effectively.
Team Leadership & Workflow Management
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals.
  • Oversee workflow, capacity planning, and job scheduling to meet deadlines.
  • Manage WIP, billing, and recoverability to ensure budget targets are met.
  • Foster a collaborative, positive, and high-performing team environment.
Performance Measures
  • Financials: Maintain a productivity target of >75% and achieve job budget targets.
  • Workflow: Timely billing, accurate invoicing, and 100% on-time lodgement of statutory returns.
  • Growth: Successful identification and delivery of value-added advisory opportunities.
  • Leadership: Measurable development of team members and contribution to office culture.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Certification: CA or CPA qualified (or near completion).
  • Experience: Minimum 4+ years within a public practice accounting environment.
  • Portfolio Management: Proven track record of managing a diverse client base.
  • Review Skills: Demonstrated experience reviewing financial statements and supervising the work of others.
  • Software: Proficiency in Xero and the Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Excel).
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of Australian taxation laws and accounting standards.
